Short description: A talk on the relationship between weather frameworks and the relationality of incorporation. I draw from my work on the South Asian monsoon and the invention of global tropicality. I will discuss episodic geographies of incorporation through air, breath, atmosphere, terra and data for fiscal and colonial mediation. As these incorporated relations dismantle monsoonal life, I ask the question – do corporations breathe?
Speaker bio: Harshavardhan Bhat is a researcher and writer interested in the social study of monsoonal futures. At The Ohio State University, he is a Postdoctoral Fellow with the Translational Data Analytics Institute where he teaches Race, Colonialism and Data – and is co-facilitator of the Abolitionist Epistemologies Working Group funded by the Humanities Institute. Harsh’s 2021 doctoral dissertation on Ways of the Monsoon was an interdisciplinary study of the airs of the south Asian monsoon and its transforming entangled relationships with anthropogenic matters, urbanization and the ways in which they confront and animate monsoonal knowledge. He is currently completing his book manuscript on “Malle – theorizing and storying rain.”
